The Root Cellar
After Lucy arrives at the house, she is brought to the root cellar and provided a bed and food until it is safe for her to leave.  
 
BEFORE
The Thomas Massey House did have a root cellar with a few winter vegetable planted.  The picture below shows the two seperate storage areas before the art department dressing.

These are a few shots of the basement as it was dressed for the film.
The "sleeping area" was created with bails of straw, old bedding, feed sacks and random storage items.
